Rwanda's delegation depart for EALASCA Games in Kampala

A DELEGATION representing the City of Kigali in this year’s East African Local Authorities Sports and Culture Associations (EALASCA) Games left for Kampala last evening.

The 115-member delegation include seven officials and 108 players, who will compete in four sports disciplines namely; football, volleyball, basketball and traditional cultural dance.

The sixth edition of the regional games is scheduled to kick-off tomorrow and run until October 5 in the Ugandan capital.

City of Kigali will be represented by Eric Nshimiyimana’s AS Kigali in men’s football, Kigali Volleyball Club (KVC), Kicukiro District in men’s basketball, Gasabo District will represent the country in women’s volleyball and basketball while Indatirwabahizi Troops will compete in cultural dancing competitions.

This year’s theme of the summit is ‘Consolidating integration through sports and culture’ On Thursday, there will be a ‘Keep Kampala Clean’ community work among other activities of the one-week festivities.

Rwanda’s delegation is headed by Charles Rusimbi, who is in charge of Youth and Sports in the City of Kigali. The games will also attract participants from Kenya, Burundi, Tanzania, Somalia, Sudan and hosts Uganda

Kigali hosted the third edition of the multi-competitions event in 2011; Nakuru (Kenya) hosted the 2012 edition while Bujumbura (Burundi) organised last year’s competitions.
