RWANDA must beat Uganda in the final game of the Fiba Zone V Championships if they are to qualify for next year’s Afrobasket Championships, which will be held in Tunisia, according to Coach Moise Mutokambali.
Mutokambali’s team has recovered from losing the opening game against Egypt to register two wins over Kenya and Somalia.
Reigning champions Egypt won two matches (against Rwanda and Uganda) and still have Somalia and Kenya to play against before winding up their campaign.
Rwanda needs to beat hosts Uganda to at least be assured of snatching an Afrobasket ticket as Egypt is most likely to win the tournament and qualify for the 2015 All Africa Games in the Republic of Congo.
Mutokambali said on Wednesday, "I must congratulate my players for the good performance in the win against Somalia. It’s was a vital win for us.”
"We have three days to rest and recover ahead of Sunday’s key game against Uganda. It’s a game we must win to seal our qualification for Afrobasket.
"I hope to have a fully fit squad and the good news that Kenneth Gasana is back and in three days, he will be fit and he will definitely boost our chances of winning the final game,” added Mutokambali.
On Wednesday, Rwanda defeated Somalia 85-71 to register their second win in the tournament after the 82-77 win over Kenya on Tuesday.
Action continues today when Egypt take on Kenya and Uganda in the men and women category respectively.
On Saturday, win-less Somalia face Kenya (men), Kenya take on Egypt (women) and Kenya play Uganda (men).
