Rwanda will participate in eleven sports disciplines at the 2015 All-Africa Games in Congo Brazzaville.
The development was confirmed by the Executive Director at Rwanda Olympic Committee Martin Koonce in an interview with Times Sport yesterday.
He said: "We sat with the Ministry of Sports and Culture to decide the disciplines which we believe we have an advantage so that they can begin preparations.”
"We are planning to engage with respective federations to find a way to start early preparations. Ideally, we want preparation to begin next month,” Koonce noted.
The sports disciplines earmarked for Brazzaville include; athletics, basketball, beach volleyball, cycling, handball, karate, fencing, taekwondo, tennis, indoor volleyball and sports for disabled.
The last All-Africa Games took place in 2011 in Mozambique’s capital Maputo where 5,000 athletes from 53 countries took part in 30 sports.
Brazzaville will be hosting the Games for the first time since organising the inaugural event in 1965 and next year’s edition will mark the 50th anniversary.
In Maputo, Paralympic athlete Cliff Hermas Muvunyi won gold in Men’s 400m-T46 and silver in 800m-T46 category.
