RWANDA basketball team coach Moise Mutokambali has affirmed his team’s determination to win their remaining matches in bid to qualify to the final of the 2014 Fiba/Zone V Championship which is underway in Kampala, Uganda.
Rwanda lost to Egypt 63-79 in the opening game played on Sunday at the Lugogo Arena. Speaking after the game, Mutokambali blamed the loss to inexperience but vowed to win the remaining matches against Kenya, Somalia and hosts Uganda.
He said: "We faced a good and strong side that had players who featured in the World Championship. My boys did quite a good job except for some defensive mistakes in the last quarter which helped Egypt to win the game.” Skipper Aristide Mugabe also echoed Mutokambali’s view, saying, "We lost and that’s a gone case. Our focus is now on the next game and we must do whatever it takes to win all our remaining matches and I believe we will do so.”
Lead player Kenneth Gasana, who plays, Al Waklah-Morocco, suffered an ankle injury in the last quarter against Egypt after scoring 15 points.
Rwanda face Kenya in their second game this afternoon, starting to at 4pm while hosts Uganda will be up against defending champions Egypt at7pm.
Rwanda will return to action on Wednesday against Somalia before winding up their matches with a date against Uganda on September 28.
The men’s category has attracted five countries namely; Uganda, Egypt, Kenya, Somalia and Rwanda while there are three women teams—Uganda, Kenya and Egypt, all playing on a round robin basis.
