Rwandan peacekeepers in S. Sudan build school

The Rwandan contingent in the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), last weekend started construction of a primary school in their area of operation, as part of the community development programme, Umuganda.

The Rwandan contingent in the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), last weekend started construction of a primary school in their area of operation, as part of the community development programme, Umuganda.

In his remarks Col. Mutara Nkangura, the Rwandan Contingent Commander emphasised the importance of quick-impact projects, and the role of Umuganda in the community.

"We are committed to improving the learning conditions of pupils. UNMISS Rwandan Contingent in partnership with Rwandan Community in South Sudan and the local population is going to construct eight classrooms, staff offices and restrooms at Kapuri Site in the coming three months,” Col. Nkangura said.

Completion of this infrastructure, he said, will help solve the plight of Kapuri Pupils who are learning under harsh conditions,” Col. Mutara Nkangura said.

He underlined that education and protection of children cannot be achieved by a single agency"Through Umuganda, we can create a condusive learning environment for our children,” he said.

Simon Kenyi James Baya, the Director of Northern Bari Payam who was the Guest of Honour commended Kapuri and Rombur communities for providing the land where the school is to be constructed.

He also thanked the Rwanda Contingent for initiating the construction of the school which he said will save the children from studying under trees.

He urged all residents of Northern Bari Payam to actively participate in Umuganda to ensure that all the facilities at the school are completed within the stipulated timeframe.

"We should not wait for somebody else to build schools for our children,” Baya urged the local residents.
