APR and Rwanda Revenue Authority were on Sunday crowned Imbuto Foundation Volleyball league champions for men and women categories after winning their semi-final playoff matches.
The two teams won their semi-finals clashes against Lycee de Nyanza and St Alloys 2-1 and 2-0 respectively over the weekend.
The win took APR to 38 points, six ahead of closest rivals Rayon Sports, who they will meet in the playoffs final this coming weekend. Even if Rayon win both games in the final, they can only accumulate 34 points—a win is worth 1 point.
Rwanda Revenue Authority won the women’s title with 26 points, three ahead of their nearest challengers and former champions APR.
APR dethrones National University of Rwanda as the men’s league champions. Both APR and RRA will represent Rwanda in the Africa Club Championships next year.
In the semi-final, Rayon Sports beat INATEK in two games (3-0 and 3-1), while APR won two of three games against Lycee de Nyanza. Nyanza won first game 3-2 in Nyanza on Saturday before APR beat the youthful side in other two games 3-0 and 3-1 respectively in Kigali on Sunday.
In women category, RRA thrashed St Alloys 3-0 and 3-0, while APR beat Ruhango 3-2 and 3-1.
In the playoffs finals, APR will face Rayon Sports in men category, while Rwanda Revenue Authority will square off against APR in the women category.
The first matches will be played in Nyanza on Saturday and the second at Amahoro indoor stadium on Sunday.
