Battle lines drawn ahead of national league kick-off

Defending Champions APR and archrivals Rayon Sports will face off on the third day of the National Football League in what pundits say is likely to be the biggest match of the season at Amahoro national stadium on October 4. The league will officially kick off on September 20.

The army side and the Blues will start their campaign against newcomers Sunrise and Isonga respectively.

In the first leg last season, the army side beat the Nyanza-based side 1-0, thanks to Charles Tibingana Mwesigye’s strike. In the second leg Rayon hit APR 2-1.

The military side’s new signing Djamar Mwiseneza and Abouba Sibomana scored the goals while Michel Ndahinduka scored the lone goal for the army side.

The other interesting games in first leg will be between Ljubomir "Ljupko” Petrovic’s side APR against Mukura at Muhanga Stadium on the second day of the league.

Three days after playing with APR, Rayon Sports will face tricky AS Kigali on the fourth day of the league while AS Kigali will face APR FC at Kigali Regional Stadium three days later.

On Sunday, October 26, Rayon Sports will meet Andre Casa Mbungo’s side Police FC at Amahoro Stadium.

On the sixth day of the league, November 1, Jean Francois Losciuto’s side, Rayon Sports will meet all time rivals SC Kiyovu at Amahoro Stadium while Eric Nshimiyimana’s side, AS Kigali will play Police at Kigali Regional Stadium on November 2.

On day seven, the army side will host Police at Kigali Regional Stadium, while Kiyovu will play against AS Kigali.

The Western Province rivals, Marines and Etincelles will meet on eighth day of the league at Umuganda Stadium, November 23 while Police FC meets SC Kiyovu at Kicukiro turf on the same day.

On day 9, APR FC will host SC Kiyovu at Kigali Regional Stadium before Rayon Sports visit Mukura at Muhanga Stadium on December 12.

The tenth day of the league will see AS Kigali face Jean Baptist Kayiranga’s side Mukura on December 20. Mukura will also host Police on the eleventh day at Muhanga Stadium, before visiting Kiyovu at Mumena Stadium on January 5, 2015.

The last day of the first leg will be graced by the match between Espoir and Mukura on January 11. Rayon Sports will meet tricky Marines at Umuganda Stadium as APR FC host Musanze on the same day.

New entrant Sunrise and Isonga will face off on last day of first leg as well.
