On the 27th of September 2023, Mount Kigali University hosted a workshop aimed at raising awareness among its students about the significance of learning the German language and the abundant opportunities it presents for working in Austria and Germany. The event was graced by the representatives from Goethe Institute Rwanda and Germany Africa Startup and also witnessed online.
During the workshop, the Vice-Chancellor of Mount Kigali University, Dr. Martin Kimemia emphasized the university’s commitment to equipping its students with the essential tools for success, such as the state-of-the-art language laboratory offering both German and English courses.
"We recognize the vital importance of mastering a foreign language in today's globalized world is a highly sought-after skill in both local and international markets. When you communicate effectively in another language, you gain the power to understand and connect with people from different backgrounds and culture. We want our students to engage in many educational and recreational activities,” remarked Dr. Kimemia.
Mount Kigali University is collaborating with reputable international organizations like Lebenshilfe Tirol, which has opened doors for its Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) graduates to explore exciting career prospects in Austria, provided they meet specific conditions. The eligible graduates must have successfully completed the BScN program, finished a one-year internship, learned German and obtained a valid nursing practice license.
The representative from Goethe Institute, Mr. Loic Azango, encouraged students to embrace the multilingual advantage to access global opportunities. He emphasized the proactive approach, stating, "Don't wait for opportunities to come to you. Seize the moment and start learning German now. Learning German opens doors to various job opportunities, including roles such as translators, nurses, teachers, engineers, and many more."
Miss. Diana Paula, the consultant for Africa Start Up, emphasized the prevalence of the German language in Europe, citing that approximately 90% of Europeans speak German. She praised the richness of German culture and the extensive opportunities for work in Europe. Carlo further said, "We provide green skills, support entrepreneurship, and offer guidance to individuals before they embark on their journeys to Austria or Germany, ensuring they are well-prepared for success."
The workshop reinforced the university's commitment to providing a holistic education that prepares graduates for the global workforce. With partnerships with organizations like Lebenshilfe Tirol, Mount Kigali University continues to pave the way for its students to thrive in an inter-connected world.
