Rwanda national volleyball team captain Christophe Mukunzi has joined Turkish first division side Payas Belediye Spor Voleybol on a one-year contract.
The 23-year-old right-attacker finalised the deal on Thursday after undergoing two weeks trials. He signed from Algerian top flight division side El Fanar where he had been for one season.
The Payas Belediye club is located in Payas near Hatay, Southern Turkey.
Last week, another national team player, Lawrence Yakan Guma signed for Turkish club Palandoken Belediye – Erzurum for one year.
Mukunzi and Guma move to Europe follows a decision by the Algeria Volleyball Federation to prohibit foreign players in their local league.
The pair has been a regular for the national team for the last couple of years and his move will be a big boost for Paul Bitok’s team.
On Monday, Rayon Sports’ youngster Nelson Murangwa left the country for a three-month trial with Japanese side Oita Miyoshi Weisse Adler.
