GASABO - The Kigali City Council Director of Land Use, Lillian Mupende, said that they were not interested in demolishing houses but in building a capital with modern facilities.
She said this last Saturday at Universite Libre de Kigali (ULK), in Gisozi while discussing the Kigali City Conceptual Master Plan.
"People must understand that we are not interested in demolishing houses but in constructing a capital with modern facilities such as hotels that will serve the many visitors we normally receive during international conferences and to promote tourism in our country,” Mupende explained.
The Mayor of Kigali City, Aisa Kirabo Kakira, said that it is necessary for people to seek advice from grass roots leadership right to the Kigali City authorities in order to know the places that will not be demolished in order to be sure about future developmental projects.
According to Mupende, the City will have to be divided into zones called Central Business Districts including Muhima and the Kimihurura Gateway.
"People, who will have been affected by these developmental acts, will be relocated at Akumunigo, Rugaramo, Rugendabari and Kinyinya in Gasabo,” Mupende said.
Other issues that were discussed included conserving the environment; the importance of fighting global warming; the dangers of ozone layer depletion and the provision of clean drinking water for Kigali residents.
