KAMONYI - Liberal Party (PL) members Monday claimed that they got an overwhelming audience as they launched their campaigns for the forthcoming parliamentary elections.

PL national level campaigns were launched in Gacurabwengye Sector of Kamonyi District, Southern Province.

Speaking to The New Times on phone, former Member of Parliament and influential PL member, Henriette Sebera, said that the party’s campaign launch was overwhelmed by the big crowd.

Sebera is ranked forth on the PL parliamentary candidates’ list and she seats on the Political Bureau of her party.
She added that the launch of PL campaigns was more colourful than the one in 2003.

"We had maximum security on our way to Kamonyi and during the campaigns, we also had enough security personnel who seemed relaxed because there was nothing causing insecurity,” said Sebera.

She expressed appreciation to other parties pointing out the Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF) for its cooperation and partnership.

She said that RPF members came to watch the launch of their campaigns, adding that it was a good sign of partnership.

She however said that according to the PL electoral calendar, the party will hold campaigns across the country, at least four times in every district.

After the public elections, parties will contribute MPs depending on the percentage of votes in the 53 parliamentary seats out of a of total 80 seats.

The remaining seats are expected to be shared by interest groups which include women, youths and disabled representatives.
