Students hail The New times for promoting English language

GICUMBI —  The New Times has been hailed for promoting the use of the English language in secondary schools.

Speaking to The New Times early this week, the headmaster of Groupe Scolaire De La Salle, Balthazar Nsengiyumva, said, ‘‘The New Times’ Program of distributing news papers to High Schools in the district has enhanced the usage of English in the school.”

High School students of Kageyo, APAPEB and Groupe Scolaire De La Salle of Gicumbi district are among those using The New Times as a tool for improving the English language. .

Besides studying English for 12 hours per week as one of the lessons offered at the schools, students have also formed an English Club comprising of all Senior Four and Six students.

The headmaster of APAPEB High School, Emmanuel Karekezi, said the English language is taught from senior one to six.

"Our target is to ensure that all students master the English language in order to meet the required standards within the East African Community (EAC),” Karekezi said.

He added that The New Times’ allocation of four newspapers per day to APAPEB has also enabled English teachers to improve their vocabulary.
