President Paul Kagame yesterday reiterated that cooperation among Rwandans had been at the core of the country’s fast growth and urged them to keep up the spirit to ensure the youth never have to experience Rwanda’s tragic history.

The Head of State made the call yesterday as he interacted with residents of Rusororo Sector in Gasabo District where he joined residents for Umuganda, the monthly community work. 

President Kagame joined residents to dig part of a 16 kilometers water trench needed that will provide water for over 2,000 people in Rusororo. Kagame latet met the residents at a nearby high school, Hillside College where he spoke about the essence of living in a stable country where people work together to provide for their needs. 

"The foundation of all that we do is good governance, security and the ability to work together to fulfill our needs and reach our potential,” he said. 

He emphasized that the progress the country has made is a result of citizens’ choice to own the development process and work together. 

"The progress we have made would not have been possible without your willingness to move forward and face our challenges,” Kagame told hundreds of cheering residents and other top officials who had joined them for Umuganda. 

"I see children here who are lucky not to have lived our tragic history. Let us make sure they never do. Let us continue to work towards progress because no one else will do it for us”. 

The Mayor of Gasabo, Willy Ndizeye, described the work done as invaluable as it allows thw active participation of citizens in solving their challenges. 

Residents thanked President Kagame for joining their own efforts to bring water to their area. 

"We have been asking our leaders to avail us water. Now there is hope that we will get it soon,” said Rusororo resident Augustin Bavakure. 

"Now I am going to see the President face to face,” said Cécile Mukaniyomugabo with excitement as she rushed to Hillside College to join other residents.
