After guiding his side to third place in the just concluded Cecafa Kagame Cup, Police FC head coach Andre Cassa Mbungo says they are on the right path to becoming a top team.
The Cops side, making their debut in the annual regional tournament, defeated Ugandan champions KCCA on spot-kicks 4-2 in the third place playoff match following a 1-1 draw at the end of 90 minutes.
"One thing I’m certain about now is that everybody knows what a good team we are – not just in Rwanda but in region, so we are very proud of that,” Mbungo told Times Sport.
He added: "I am happy that we reached this stage but I believe we could have done better than winning third place. Nonetheless, it is not a bad position to finish given that it was our first appearance in the tournament.”
"Our aim is to have a competitive team, which is capable of winning trophies but I am confident next season we shall have a stronger team (than last season).”
Police was outstanding in Cecafa Kagame Cup and reached the semi-finals without losing a game before losing to APR 4-2 on post match spot-kicks after both teams drew 0-0 in regular time.
