Local football federation officials depart on Tuesday for Cairo, Egypt to make a case for Rwanda after the country was banned from the ongoing qualifiers of the 2015 Afcon.

The three are expected to appear before a Caf’s appeals board tomorrow after Ferwafa filed an appeal against the decision by the Afcon organising committee to discontinue Rwanda from the competition on the grounds that it fielded a player with two different identities en route to qualification.

The delegation is led by Ferwafa president Vincent Nzamwita, with secretary general Olivier Mulindahabi and legal affairs head Emmanuel Ndagijimana also making the trip.

Nzamwita said they have sound reasons to compel the appeals board to overturn the ban.

The player at the centre of the controversy is Rwanda international Daddy Birori, who is said to be playing for his Congolese side AS Vita Club under the name Agiti Tady Etakiama.

Congo protested against Birori’s eligibility after the player featured in the 2-0 Amavubi away defeat, before missing the return leg in Kigali which Rwanda won and eventually eliminated the Congolese side to qualify for the group stage of the competition.
