Rwanda National Police (RNP’s) Specialized Medical Programme (SMP) has started a 10-day free circumcision exercise.

The exercise to be carried out in Rwamagana and Kayonza districts is organised by RNP and the Ministry of Health.

The services are expected to benefit, among others, police officers, District Administrative Security Support Organ (DASSO), Community Policing Committees (CPCs) and their families.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Dr. Wilson Rubanzana, Coordinator of Isange One Stop Centres and Specialized Medical Programme in RNP, said operations started yesterday at Gishari Health Centre located at the Police Training School in Rwamagana District.

"During the 10-day health rogramme, beneficiaries will also be sensitised on HIV/AIDS prevention and there will be free distribution of condoms. This is a campaign meant to further prevent spread of sexual transmitted diseases,” Rubanzana said.

The awareness will be conducted in all sectors in the two districts.

"Sexually transmitted infections are also a threat to people’s security. If we are to achieve sustainable security, we also have to protect them from such epidemic diseases by educating them how to live a positive life,” he added.

"Ensuring good health of citizens is also one of RNP priorities and that’s why Police has established four health centres across the country to offer various health services to citizens,” he added.
