Editor,

I was very pleased to read your article, "Binagwaho gets first PhD from University of Rwanda” (The New Times, August 20).

The Government of Rwanda’s focus on the education sector is indeed commendable and the support extended to those who want to pursue higher education must be appreciated.

Education and healthcare are both crucial in the development of any country and the new Rwanda will continue to inspire others with the great strides it is making in the two sectors.

The support being extended by the Government to an Indian university, which is setting up a state-of-the art campus in the country, is much appreciated.

While we congratulate Dr Agnes Binagwaho on being awarded the first Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) by the University of Rwanda, we do believe that she will inspire many more to follow in her footsteps.
