Police Football Club head coach Andre Cassa Mbungo is a man full of confidence ahead of today’s Cecafa Kagame Cup semi-final clash between his team and local rivals APR at Kigali Regional Stadium.

Police go into today’s game on the back of an enviable 100 per cent record in the annual tournament, having won all its three group games, including a comfortable victory over champions Vital’O of Burundi, as well as the closely contested quarterfinal tie against Burundi’s Atletico.

Mbungo said his team are in a bullish mood and were in position to beat anyone in the competition. He fired the warning after seeing his side beat Atletico 9-8 in penalty shootouts, with goalkeeper Marcel Nzarora taking the decisive spot kick on Tuesday. Normal time had ended 0-0.

Speaking after the game, Cassa Mbungo said: "We are pleased to reach the semi-finals. The boys put up a spirited performance to get through a very tough game.”

"In the semi-finals, Police will be ready to face anyone,” he said moments before APR beat local nemesis Rayon Sports to a date with the Cops side.

APR won the derby 4-3 on penalty shootouts after both teams had played to a 2-2 draw.

However, APR’s Serbian coach Ljubomir Petrovic is equally confident of getting victory today. He was particularly buoyed by the quarterfinal win over Rayon Sports on Tuesday, and is full of praise for his boys.

"It was the best match of the tournament and it should not have come at this stage, but it came nonetheless. I am happy with this win because the boys played well though we conceded two easy goals due to poor goalkeeping,” he said.

Petrovic added: "I am really impressed with the boys and I believe we are on the right track to win the title, but first we must overcome Police in the semi-finals on Friday.”
