Police arrest main suspect in Ruhango family murder

Following investigations into the heinous murder act of a mother and her five children in Ruhango District on August 1, Police has arrested the main suspect.

Following investigations into the heinous murder act of a mother and her five children in Ruhango District on August 1, Police has arrested the main suspect.

Steven Baribwirumuhungu was apprehended on August 15 in Kanyana cell, Sovu Sector of Ngororero District.

He is currently detained at Ruhango Police Station as investigations continue.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect committed the inhumane act after escaping from Mpanga Prison.

Investigations further indicate that Baribwirumuhungu, who was also posing as Etienne Habumugisha, had a misunderstanding with one Sylvestre Ngayaberura, the husband and father of the victims whom they were serving a prison sentence together at Mpanga, after both were relocate from Muhanga Prison following the recent fire incident that destroyed part of the facility. 

Investigations are still ongoing to bring to justice all those that could be connected to this murder.

The Police urge the general public to continue their partnership in these investigations to ensure that justice is served.
