Christopher Muneza who featured in this year’s edition of Primus Guma Guma Super Star competition is full of surprises when it comes to his sense of style on and off stage. He will wear a suit one day and jeans the next.

He spoke to Collins Mwai about his versatility and gave fashion advice he actually lives by. Below are the excerpts:

What do you consider when choosing attire to wear for a concert?

It depends on the kind of audience I am performing for, if it is a mature audience I am likely to go for a suit, if the audience is youthful or I am on a road show, the preferred clothes are mostly casual. I like to blend with the audience.

How would you describe your fashion sense when you are not on stage?

I mostly go for comfortable outfits, whether official or casual, it has to be comfortable.

What should be the priority clothing item for the season?

If you can, go for shorts and v-neck shirts, they help you keep cool during the hot season.

What style or clothing items do you think men should avoid forever?

It is okay to wear what you prefer as long as it doesn’t betray your culture or comes off as exaggerated.

Where would you shop for clothes?

I buy clothes in the country and whenever I have a chance to travel. I do not have a designer or a particular boutique where I get my clothes. If I am walking down a street and happen to see something I like, I will buy it.

Would you wear second hand clothes?

Let’s face it; at times it can be hard to have enough money to buy brand new clothes, so there is no problem wearing second hand clothes. What I would advise those who buy these clothes is that they have to wash them thoroughly first to avoid infections.

What hair style do you think grown working men should avoid?

Hair extensions, men should stay away from them, they are only for ladies.

Do you think facials, manicure and pedicures are appropriate for men?

Unless you are going for a video shoot or a photo-shoot, as a man, there is no point in wearing making or grooming too much.

Who do you borrow your dress sense from?

An Indian actor named Hrithik Roshan.

What do you consider when shopping clothes?

I do not have a particular brand. The item has to be unique and comfortable, and it has to look good on me.

Shoes of preference?

I like classic shoes and sneakers.

What’s your favourite fashion accessory?

I do not have one in particular.

Fashion advice you live by?

You do not have to wear something because it looked good on someone else; it has to look good on you.
