The First Lady, Jeannette Kagame, graced the 2nd Greenhills Academy Alumni dinner on Thursday.

The event attracted over 100 former students, teachers as well as school administrators.

The reunion presented an opportunity for the young men and women to network and keep the school updated on where they are. 

Louis Murego, who spoke on behalf of the Greenhills Alumni, commended the school for nurturing them and recalled with nostalgia the memorable moments they shared as peers.

Speaking at the dinner, Faustin Mbundu, the school Board chair, highlighted the school’s plan to improve infrastructure such as establishing a swimming pool, a band room as well as offering boarding facilities.

He congratulated the alumni on their achievements and  growth, adding that there was no better return on investment than seeing how well the students were fairing.

Some of the teachers spoke about the evolution of Greenhills since its inception in 1999 with just a handful of  students and teachers.

 Today the school has about 1,500 students in nursery, primary and secondary levels. The former students talked about Greenhills’ mission ‘Towards Excellence,’ which is something they aspire for on a daily basis.

Teachers talked about Greenhills students contribution to Rwanda’s development vision through leadership and the different skills they have gained over the years. 

In 2012, the former students launched the Alumni association with the intention of giving back to the school that they say set such a strong foundation for them.

They are now in the process of establishing a formal structure to govern the Alumi association. These alumni are seeking various avenues through  which they can give back to the school.
