AS Vita Club and Amavubi striker Daddy Birori has been suspended indefinitely by the Confederation of African Football for holding two different passports under two different names.

Birori is registered as Agiti Taddy Etekiama with his DR Congo club AS Vita, something that was brought to CAF’s attention by the Congo FA.

The decision to suspend Birori follows a complaint lodged by the Congo Brazzaville Football Association over an alleged case of dual identity after their elimination from the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Rwanda won the tie 4-3 on penalty shootouts after both side drew 2-2 on aggregate.

Birori is not allowed to play for AS Vita Club nor with the Rwanda national team until the investigation is concluded and final decision is made next week on Wednesday.

Birori featured in the first leg in Pointe-Noire, which Congo won 2-0 but didn’t play in the return leg in Kigali, a game that Amavubi won by the same score.

Should CAF agree that Rwanda have fielded an ineligible player against Congo, Amavubi will be disqualified and the Red Devils reinstated in Group A of the final round of qualifiers, which also has South Africa, Nigeria and Sudan.

Birori scored a hat-trick for Rwanda in the return leg against Libya in May to see the Amavubi qualify to take on Congo in the second round of qualification.

Before moving to Congo, Birori featured for Mukura Victory Sport and Atraco FC between 2007 and 2009.
