Editor,
Declining standards of morals among children in society should worry parents. Many parents and caregivers are not concerned with the media content their children are exposed to out of their busy schedule yet this is the main source of today’s moral decay.
While local television channels may try to censor some of the programmes, this has yielded no results as children have access to "uncontrollable” international channels due to the difference between our time zones.
In another affront to good morals, most parents have bought smart mobile phones and laptops for their children, which is not quite bad because they are gadgets of communication and information, but a disheartening aspect is that children have taken this advantage to venture into social media and the internet in general where they forge friendships with strangers whose backgrounds they do not know.
It is quite true that children’s disciplinary levels are lowered by watching contents which exhibit anti-social activities like crime, drug abuse and pornography.
Before parents blast teachers for failing to ensure that their children are disciplined, let them regulate the media content they expose their children to.
