Rwandan teams step up preps for EAC military games

A TOTAL of 91 Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) sportsmen and women are in THE final stages of their preparations for the upcoming 8th East Africa Military Games and Cultural Event due August 18-30 in Zanzibar.

RDF will be represented by five teams spread in five disciplines, namely; Football, Basketball, Netball, Handball and Cross country. 

The delegation will be led by Col. John Bosco Ngiruwonsanga, according to an RDF statement.

"All is set for our teams to participate and win medals,” the Director of Sports in the RDF, Maj. Simba Kinesha, said in the statement. 

The teams will leave Kigali for Zanzibar on August 18.

According to the fixtures, the opening football match will be between Tanzania and Burundi on August 20, with RDF taking on their Tanzanian counterparts two days later. 

The 8th edition of the EAC Military Games and Cultural events, to run under the theme ‘One People One Destiny through EAC Military Games and Cultural Event 2014’, will officially open on August 20 and close on Aug. 29, at the 15,000-capacity Amaan Stadium.

The games are geared toward enhancing solidarity and cooperation through sports and culture among the EAC Partner States’ Armed Forces, according to organisers.

Rwanda hosted the fifth edition in 2009.
