With just two weeks left to the grand finale of Primus Guma Guma Super Star season 4 competition, contestants are pulling all the stops during this final rehearsal period.  

This week, traditional music stars and Rn’B maestros Jules Sentore and Diana Teta open up on their journey so far, share experiences on the road shows and their best moments during the competition so far. 

JULES SENTORE

How would you describe your journey through PGGSS4?

They were exciting road shows. I learnt a lot especially through interacting with the public. It taught me how interacting with fans can boost one’s morale and energy to work even harder. Overall, it was great.

What was your favourite moment on the road shows?

I can’t say that there’s a specific road show that I loved the most because I enjoyed most of them. However, if I was to choose I would go with Nyagatare, Rusizi and Huye road shows. My favourite moment was seeing people sing with me while on stage. It was always wonderful to see them sing along.

How would you describe your relationship with the other contestants?

I’m good with all artistes. PGGSS 4 offered us an opportunity to meet more often, interact and get to know each other. When people meet frequently for such a long time, they get to know each other although at times the public has its own version of how we interact, but usually it’s false news.

If you were to describe your fellow contestants, who would you say is:

Witty? – Amag The Black. He is a morale booster

Most quiet? – TMC from Dream Boys

Mischievous? – That would still be Amag The Black and Tizzo from Active

Most humble? – Senderi International Hit

Anything you have learnt through this competition?

I learnt that if we want to grow regionally and internationally, we need to market our music. We need to start doing music as professionals. We should start looking at music as something we can decently earn from.

What about your fellow artistes, did you learn anything from them in terms of performances?

Nothing much.

What advice would you give to other artistes as we edge towards the end of PGGSS 4?

Continue the hard work. This is a job and we should treat it as such, not a pastime activity.  

What message would you give to your fans?

I would to ask them to continue supporting me. I need their advice, moral support and prayers. And I ask them to continue voting for me.

DIANA TETA

What lessons did you draw from the competition?

Quite a lot. There was a spirit of competition among all of us but the best lessons I learnt were drawn from my fellow artistes. We had people with different characters but somehow we learnt to co-exist with each other and have fun all together.

If you were to describe your fellow artistes, who would say is:

Playful? – Amag The Black. He is very funny

Humble? – Everyone is humble in their own way but if I had to choose one, then it would be Olvis from Active

Reserved? – TMC from Dream Boys

Kind? – Everyone was kind, especially to me. I will miss them all once the competition ends.

Would you say that your relationship with the other artistes is competitive, friendly?

I would say that besides this being a competition, I interacted with most of them mainly on a friendship level. I got to know people more personally and we shared a lot of interesting stories.  

Which road show did you enjoy most?

I enjoyed all the road shows but I enjoyed more the moments I spent interacting with others. For example, Jay Polly and I are now close friends because we would sit and talk endlessly. We opened up to each other and now I have a friend I never thought I would have. Young Grace and I bonded as sisters. Basically those moments stand out for me.  

Any lessons learnt from your fellow artistes regarding performances, stage management?

Life is a journey and at times it is difficult to determine what I might have learnt although I might find myself unconsciously doing something that I saw from someone but right now it is hard to tell.

What was the journey like for you in this competition?

I enjoyed every bit of it. From the conversations to the performances and meeting my fans, it was wonderful. For me, I can sum it up in one word; FUN.  

What advice would you share with the other artistes as you draw closer to the finish line?

Keep believing in yourself. We all made it this far because we believed in ourselves. Everyone is strong on their own, they should keep the spirit. Lastly, keep smiling.

Any message to your fans?

I love them so much. Now that PGGSS 4 is almost done, I’m back. Let’s get the ball rolling.
