BargeParty, a completely unique all-night dance experience, is slated to set sail on August 23. Rwanda’s Lake Kivu will host the second annual event aboard the 90m long barge, Mungu Iko (translated as ‘There is a God’) which will be transformed overnight from a cement carrier to a creative party platform.

Guests aboard the ship will be invited to dance, lounge, eat, drink, and explore as the barge tours the waters surrounding Kibuye. Those that make it to the end might also catch a glimpse of the sun rising over the Karongi mountain range.

"Barge Party is about finding freedom on Lake Kivu. It’s about coming together, under the stars, above the waters, and dancing. This year’s edition of Barge Party will be even more exciting. The spirit of the event remains the same; host the best party of the year, transform a working machine into a work of art, and inspire people to dance,” said Gilbert Mwebaze, one of the organisers.

The event takes place this Saturday in Kibuye, Kargoni, outside Hotel Golf. Tickets are on sale at the Office in Kiyovu for Rwf15,000 and at the barge for Rwf20,000. The cost covers beer and barbeque. The barge docks at 1a.m to drop off people who want to catch a nap as others continue. This year’s party has a limit of 250 guests.

This year’s edition of BargeParty will team up with Bralirwa under the Mutzig brand to make the party more vibrant and entertaining. "The team also wants to engage local artists to come and transform the deck and hull into a moving art exhibit” he added.

Last year’s party hosted 150 guests, touring the waters off Kibuye from 11p.m till sunrise. The event hosted five international DJ’s: DJ Jyast (Rwanda) and DJ G-Low (Rwanda), Pang DJ (US), DJ Nano (Kenya) and a special guest appearance from the South Africa’s DJ Duet and Jews for Techno.

Last year, the party started off on a low, when the engine roared to life and the lights and music flashed alive, there was a roar from the crowd that did not end until the barge headed back to the docks.
