Newly appointed Gicumbi FC head coach Emmanuel Ruremesha says his bosses need to give him the support he needs in taking the club forward. 

Ruremesha, who joined the Gicumbi District-sponsored team recently on one-year deal, has told Times Sport that he will need close relationship with club authorities if the team is to stage a successful campaign during the forthcoming season, which starts next month. 

"My assignment is to take Gicumbi FC to a higher position (on the table) compared to where the team finished last season. But for me to be successful in this mission I need full support from club authorities, especially financially,” said the former coach of Mukura Victory Sports and Espoir FC. 

Ruremesha said he intends to bring in competent players as he seeks to build a stronger side that can go on to secure a respectable position in the league next season.

Last season Gicumbi FC, under Jean Baptiste Kayiranga, spend most of the season battling near the relegation zone but eventually finished in ninth position in the 14-team table with 25 points – following a much improved performance in the second half of the season. 

Kayiranga has since left the club to join Mukura.

Ruremesha, who had a good season with Espoir last season, added: "We have dismissed 10 players from the squad of 25 from last season, so we need to sign ten new players to replace those that have left, but we are looking at quality, not quantity.” 

Rusizi-based Espoir finished in sixth place with 39 points last season, having spent most of the season in the top four.
