DEFENDING Champions Espoir will faceoff rivals Cercle Sportif de Kigali (CSK) in the men’s basketball play-offs best of five finals set to begin in midweek.

Espoir, who are seeking a third straight playoffs title, booked their place in the final after their semi-final opponents United Generation Basketball club (UGB) were thrown out of the competition by the Rwanda basketball federation for failing to honor Game 1 on Friday without a "valid reason”.

As for CSK, they won Game 1 on Friday against APR 95-85 but the army side refused to turn up for Game 2 on Saturday in protest after the federation declined their request to field an unregistered player, Pascal Niyonkuru.

The two incidents were confirmed to Sunday Sport by basketball federation’s Technical Director Didier Shema-Maboko on Saturday.

According to Shema-Maboko, UGB failed to honor Game 1 against the two-time reigning champions Espoir because their assistant coach Jacques Bahige had a wedding on Saturday (yesterday), which the federation found as no valid reason not respect the schedule.

In women’s category, Rwanda Allied Peace for Progress (RAPP) take on league champions Ubumwe BC this afternoon at Amahoro indoor stadium after pulling off a shock 42-41 win over the playoffs defending champions APR on Friday.
