Foreign-based basketball players are expected to join the national team’s training camp early next month ahead for the Zone V and All Africa Games qualifiers.

The qualifiers tournament is slated for September 21-30 in Kampala, Uganda. Preparations have already started with only local players in camp.

The Zone V Afro-basketball championship will act as a qualifying platform for the African championships as well as the All Africa Games.

Head coach Moise Mutokambali said the professional players are expected in the country on September 1.

The seven pros include; Kenneth Gasana (Morocco), Bradley Cameroon, Patrice Twagirayezu, Dan Manzi, Adonis Rwabigwi (US), Hamza Ruhezamihigo (Canada) and Thierry Suku Suku (France).

 "We have started training and everything looks good, we will continue to train three times in week and, in September, we will begin full-time training after foreign-based players have joined us,” Mutokambali said.

The regional showpiece will also attract Burundi, defending champions Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, and hosts Uganda.

Both finalists will earn a ticket to the African basketball championships to be staged next year in Tunisia, while the winner will also represent the region in next year’s All Africa Games due in the Republic of Congo.
