Local RnB singer and dancer Jack B is demanding for an apology and compensation from singing trio Active and producer Fazzo for using his music beat without his consent in the song Dusimbuke, which was released last Friday.

Jack B says he took the beat to producer Fazzo to help him complete it after producer Fast Boy of Ibisumuzi Music Label, the original composer, abandoned the project to go for further studies.

"I started working on the beats in June but later Fast Boy had to go back to school with Ibisumizi Music Label also closing shortly after. In July, I decided to it take to Fazzo whom I had previously worked with on other projects but to my dismay he sold it to Active and when I tried to contact him, he ignored my calls,” Jack B explained

He said that he had already recorded one verse and chorus of the song which was supposed to be a collabo with Two4Real.

"Active recorded the song in a free style instrumental beat but I can prove that it was mine because I have the original composition. I want both (Active and Fazzo) to apologise and compensate me,” he added.

However, Tizzo, a member of Active, says they had no knowledge that the beats for Dusimbuke belonged to someone else. "We are equally shocked. It’s the producer who approached us with the beats which he thought suited our style. We listened to the beats and they were really nice; two weeks later he called us again asking why we never went back to record the song”.

"That is the when we took the whole project serious. We went to the studio, wrote the lyrics within 45 minutes and recorded the song,” he explained.

He said they would investigate the matter and if they find that Jack B is right, they were willing to apologise to him and settle the matter amicably. "We are willing to apologise because it is very wrong when someone steals your own music beats. It takes a lot of work to come up with these beats. Fazzo will have made a serious mistake.”

Fazzo speaks out

Producer Fazzo, now with Infinity Records, gave the beats to Active while he was still at Touch Records.  He admits selling Jack B’s compositions saying the latter had failed to pay him for the work he had already done, thus prompting him to sell the beats.

And while Jack B says that the deal was to pay Fazzo at the end of the project, Fazzo denies knowledge of such a deal. "Jack B owes me Rwf40, 000 from a previous project so when he brought me the beats I decided to steal it to settle the previous debt”.

He added: "He owed me that money for close to six months. During the six months period, I tried calling him but he continuously ignored my calls, and that’s when I chose to sell his beat,” Fazzo argued.

But he said was willing to make Jack B another beat and record for him a song free of charge, and also apologise for the damage caused.
