National football league rivals Rayon Sports and Police FC are set to battle it out in a pre-season friendly match his afternoon at Kigali Regional Stadium.
Both teams are using the match to test their players ahead of this year’s Cecafa Kagame Interclub Championships, which is scheduled for August 8-24 in Kigali.
Rayon Sports will go into the regional tournament seeking to win their title since their first in 1998 in Zanzibar, while Police FC will be looking to impress in the competition on their maiden appearance.
Nyanza district-based Rayon are drawn in Pool A alongside Yanga (Tanzania), Coffee (Ethiopia), Atlbara (South Sudan) and KMKM (Zanzibar), while Police are in Pool C along defending champions Vital’O (Burundi), El Merreikh (Sudan) and Benadir of Somalia. Pool B includes three-time champions APR FC of Rwanda and KCC (Uganda), Flambeau de l’est (Burundi), Gor Mahia (Kenya) and Telecom of Djibouti.
Three best placed teams from Group A and B and two others from Group C will qualify to the quarter-finals. All 34 matches of the East and Central African meet will be broadcasted live by SuperSport.
