The Eastern Province on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understand (MoU) with Trans Nzoia County of Kenya to enhance cooperation in education and technology, commerce, agriculture and tourism. 

The two also agreed to cooperate in culture and sports, energy, land management, housing and planning, environment and governance for the good of the people they lead. 

The Governor of the Eastern Province, Odette Uwamariya and Trans Nzoia County Assembly Speaker, David Sifuna signed on behalf of their entities. 

Sifuna said that the MoU was principally aimed at strengthening social and economic ties between the two regions and called for the involvement of the people in the implementation process.

"We share common characteristics which is why we need to set a benchmark to serve our people’s interests. The relationship we have forged is for the people…we must involve them right from village level,” he said.

He added that the MOU was in line with the various protocols in the Eastern African Community.

Uwamariya commended the partnership, saying Rwanda will stay focused on fostering economic development through interactions.

"It is a practical way to share investment opportunities each of us possesses. We are both the ‘Food baskets’ of our respective nations…we can thus do more to exchange resources and knowledge,” she said.
