Junior Wasps crash out of Nations qualifiers

TEN-MAN Rwanda U-17 football team lost 2-3 to Uganda Cubs in the return leg match on Friday at Umuganda stadium in Rubavu to bow out of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Uganda’s Charles Sebutinde scored the opener in the 31st minute before Julius Poloto netted the second in the 45th minute.  The first half ended  2-0 in favour of the visitors.

Lee Johnson’s starlets came back from break inspired and scored two goals through youngster Rachid Bigiraneza, who was the star of the afternoon. 

However, Shaban Muhammed made sure that Uganda returned to Kampala with all three points when he scored the winning goal in the 74th minute.

Rwanda ended with ten players on the field after captain Djabel Manishimwe was red-carded in the 86th minute for fouling and later getting involved in a fight with Uganda’s Frank Tumwesigye.

Uganda advances to the third and final round of qualifiers on a 7-2 aggregate having won 4-0 in the first leg, and will now face Zambia. 

The final tournament will be held from February 15 to March 1, 2015 in Niger, with the semifinalists qualifying to represent the continent at the 2015 Fifa U-17 World Cup scheduled for Chile.
