Holiday makers are in for a treat as the first Miss High School beauty contest kicks off on Sunday at Sports View Hotel in Remera.
The beauty contest targets secondary school students with an aim of helping them develop their talent, boost their self confidence and to groom them into role models who can inspire other students.
According to Salim Manzi, one of the organisers, many secondary school girls lag behind in various fields because most of them lack self-confidence and have very few people to look up to for inspiration.
"There are women who these young girls look up to but they also need models among their peers to freely interact with since they all share the same experiences,” said Manzi.
Eleven schools will take part in this year’s competition although the event orgarnisers say that they will eventually include other schools in future. School taking part this year include FAWE Girls School, Lycee De Kigali, Lycee Notre Dame de Citeaux, APE Rugunga, Glory Secondary School, SOS Kagugu, Ecole Belge, IPRS Kicukiro, Saint Patrick, Ecole Francaise and IFAK Kimihurura.
The event will start at 4pm and entrance fee is Rwf 3,000 and 5,000 for VIP seats respectively.
