Over 1,000 delegates and exhibitors are expected to attend the forthcoming 16th annual East African Power Industry Convention in Nairobi, Kenya at the beginning of September, according to organisers.

The conference and expo, scheduled for September 3-4, will showcase the latest technologies, products and services across the energy value chain from generation, transmission, distribution and services, Rachel Lutwama, the head of emerging energy markets sales at Siemens, one of the sponsors the event, said in a statement yesterday.

Lutwama said the convention is a platform to engage the region’s leading power utility service providers and investors.

It attracts policy-makers, utilities, financial institutions and other industry service providers to debate issues and suggest solutions that will mould and shape the future of the regional energy industry.

Last year, the East African Community unveiled a $64b plan for regional joint power projects that aim at generating eight times more power than is currently available over the next 25 years.

"The East African energy market has one of the most diversified energy resource mixes to support a cohesive and sustainable power supply programme, ranging from the conventional hydro, coal and geothermal, to natural gas, oil, wind, solar and biomass feed stocks,” Lutwama said.
