KICUKIRO - Thirty businesswomen are to benefit from a scholarship to undertake an international Entrepreneurship Certificate Program.

While meeting the beneficiaries at the School of Finance and Banking (SFB) offices in Gikondo Wednesday the school’s Rector, Prof. Krishna K. Govender said that Goldman Sachs and the William Davidson Institute (WDI) will bring Business Education to Rwandan women who have traditionally been denied opportunities in schooling and business.

Govender explained to the women details of what the program requires of them in order to fully understand its relevance.

He further said that the sponsorship means that all accepted participants will be able to attend the program free of charge.

In addition, those participants outside Kigali will receive lodging and meals. The program is sponsored by the Goldman Sachs under its 10,000 Women Initiative which seeks to give 10,000 women around the world a business and management education over the next five years.

Two groups of 30 women will be benefiting from this arrangement in those five years. The first program will start September 2, while the second will commence in February 2009.

Selection is based on a candidate’s knowledge of business, commitment and ability to attend the training, description of their financial needs and their expectations after training.

The Goldman Sachs Entrepreneurship Certificate program was designed by the WDI’s Executive Education Department, in consultation with the business school faculty in the United States and with WDI’s partner in Rwanda, SFB.

The program was then reviewed to meet the specific needs of women entrepreneurs in Rwanda.
