Police yesterday morning foiled an attempted robbery at a Banque Populaire branch in Mimuri, Nyagatare District.
The Eastern Region Police Spokesperson, Senior Supt. Bénoit Nsengiyumva, said the suspects, who were using a Toyota Corona, tried to break into the bank at about 2am.
He said three people were apprehended red-handed as they tried to flee the scene in the vehicle.
One of the suspects was shot and injured in the leg and was by press time receiving treatment at Nyagatare hospital under the supervision of security personnel while the other two were detained at Nyagatare Police station as investigations continued.
"We got information about their planned robbery and arrested them at the scene with over Rwf1.2 million which they had already stolen from the bank,” SSP Nsengiyumva said.
He commended area residents for providing credible information that led to the arrest of the suspects, and urged them to continue with the cooperation.
