SWIMMER Patrick Rukundo started his Commonwealth Games campaign on a poor note after finishing last in the Men’s 50m Butterfly on Thursday. Jackson Abeiku from Ghana won the heat in 27:21.
Rukundo, who is making his debut in the Games finished last in heat two and went ahead to finish bottom of the general standings after clocking 31.46. He will also compete in 50m breaststroke and 50m freestyle respectively.
It was a shock for the Commonwealth 50m Butterfly defending champion Jason Dunford, who failed to qualify for the finals of the same event as he finished in 5th place in his semifinal heat in a time of 24.03.
Today, Rwanda’s two boxers Jean Maurice Bikorimana (69-70Kg) and Olivier Nshingiro (60Kg) start their campaign.
In marathon, the duo of Dieudonne Disi and Jean Pierre Mvuyekure will kick off their campaign on Sunday, the same as Pontien Ntawuyirushintege in the men’s 5,000m.
Emmanuel Ntakiyimana, Thimote Bagina (800 m), Eric Sebahire, Cyriaque Ndayikengurukiye, Felicien Muhitira, Claudette Mukasakindi and Clementine Mukandanga (10000m) will be in action on Tuesday.
The six cyclists including; Janvier Hadi, Gasore Hategeka, Valens Ndayisenga, Adrien Niyonshuti, Jean Bosco Nsengimana, and Bonaventure Uwizeyimana will compete on Thursday.
