Ezres Anitah Shitinyu is a web and graphics designer by profession. But she is also a fashion enthusiast who makes jewellery and other fashion accessories. She is also into events management. 

Shitinyu, also known as AZ to her friends and colleagues, spoke to Society Magazine’s Doreen Umutesi about her designing skills and what influences her style.

How would you describe your fashion sense?

I would say my personal style or dress sense is a smart messy look. I dress fairly smart but with hints of shagginess. My style is sometimes affected by my mood or the weather.

What’s your favourite clothing item?

My eight Kenyan bracelets, I feel absolutely naked without them (she laughs). When I go through my wardrobe, I can’t say I like a particular shirt, pants, and pair of shoes or jewelry more than the other. I do not really have a favourite. All I can say is that I have seasons for everything in my wardrobe.

Where do you shop for clothes?

I do not have a particular store where I buy my clothes. I am a shopping freak and most of the new clothes I buy; I wear them years later or not. If I see something interesting that would go with my pair of boots or my bag, I will pick it. I buy most of my clothes in Kenya when I go for holiday and some of them I buy online on amazon.com.

What do you consider when shopping clothes?

Colour mostly. I love black and I will pick anything black whether it will go with my earrings or. I also look at the design of the outfit and sometimes if it will go with anything in my wardrobe, for instance my pair of boots, my bracelet, my jeans etc.

Your favourite fashion accessory?

   I love jewellery, especially earrings. I make some of my jewellery. I play around with how I wear them.

What is your favourite clothing item on a guy?

Isn’t that a tricky question? (She laughs). A man with abs and muscles will always get my full attention. I’m sure all girls will agree with me. So I like tight t-shirts and vests on men. But that’s only if they have the body for it.

What’s your favourite scent?

That’s a hard one. I don’t know where to start from. I like good scents. But I will narrow it down to two. I like lavender and jasmine, you will see that when you visit me. My lotion, washing detergent, hand soap, bathing gel, air freshener and body spray are either lavender or jasmine. By the way I also appreciate a man wearing good cologne.

Any fashion advice?

Look gorgeous for every occasion. And when people stare at you, give them something to look at. Make the stare worthwhile.
