Flexibility may not be a talent but it is a skill you can learn from Odeth Tumwine, who has been a teacher for 15 years. She is a teacher, leader, parent and counsellor.

When The New Times visited St. Paul International School where Tumwine teaches Geography, she was comforting and advising a group of youngsters who had approached her with their worries and frustrations.

Because of her style of teaching and the motherly love she carries to the classroom, Tumwine’s Geography class is packed to capacity.

The students say she is more practical than theoretical which makes her lessons interesting. She uses charts, maps and other engaging methods to aid the students’ understanding. This may be the reason why the students excel with distinctions in her subject.

Tumwine, who is also the chairperson of mediators at Nyarugenge sector, is usually involved in settling various domestic disputes, a job her bosses say she has done with a lot of zeal, kindness and impartiality.
