Genocide suspect Emmanuel Mbarushimana extradited from Denmark early this month, re-appeared in Nyarugunga Primary Court on a pre-trial hearing where he is facing charges related to Genocide.

Mbarishimana blocked his initial trial last week on grounds that his legal counsel was "amateurish”. As a constitutional right, the judge ordered for an adjournment to allow Mbarushimana get the counsel he is satisfied with.

In a new twist, the suspect appeared with no lawyer today. 

It is alleged that in 1994, Mbarushimana organised and participated in the killings of Tutsi in Kabuye, Dahwe, Gisagara, Ndora, Twarubona and nearby areas, in the current Gisagara District in the Southern Province.  He was at the time, an Inspector of Schools in then Muganza Commune.

A former schoolteacher, he had lived in Denmark with his wife and four children for the last 13 years. Rwanda filed an extradition request back in February 2012. Mbarushimana later failed in his bid to challenge the extradition efforts in courts.
