Despite missing out on phase two of the revamped MTN Beach volleyball championship, Flavien Ndamukunda and Emmanuel Mutabazi have proved that they are the real deal.

Having won phase one in Kibuye two weeks ago, the pair added onto their trophy tally last Sunday when they won the third phase at Amahoro stadium.

The pair who played against Alexis Nkuranga and Peter Ngirimana in the final, rallied from a set down to win the contest 2-1 (18-21, 21-16, 15-8).

Meanwhile, heads are also expected to roll this weekend in the ladies’ category when the championship enters phase four at Gisenyi.

Emmelienne Uwineza and Jeanette Niyigena; the winners of the first two phases have promised a strong comeback after losing out to Denise Mukarukundo and Josie Rukeshingabire last Sunday.

On Sunday, Uwineza and Niyigena lost in straight sets 0-2 (19-21, 19-21) but promised to fight back in Gisenyi.

For every phase, the winners in the men, ladies and veterans’ category walk away with a cash prize of Frw 180,000 while the second, third and fourth also bag Frw 100,000, Frw 60,000, Frw 40,000 courtesy of MTN, the official sponsor.
