Business almost came to a standstill yesterday in Gikondo industrial park when fire broke out destroying property.
"The fire started at about 1:30pm on a premise of one Anatoli Nsengimana, a business man destroying a couple of fuel drums, before our fire fighting trucks arrived within 15 minutes and stopped it. No one was injured,” noted Modeste Mbabazi , the Kigali Police spokesperson.
Mbabazi partly blamed the fire on negligence "there was a lot of exposure, it was improper to put flammable products in an open area, closeby a road.”
He, however, added that investigations were ongoing to establish the exact cause of the inferno.
Moses Niyonshuti, a resident of the area did not rule out arson.
"This place has many idlers, and those fuel drums were very close to the road so it’s hard to rule out that anyone of them could have been responsible,” he said
Mbabazi also called upon members of the public to come up with fire fighting measures, like acquiring fire extinguishers.
