The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Emmanuel K. Gasana, has appealed to Rwandan youth in diaspora to maintain Rwandan values and be good ambassadors in their respective host nations.

The Police chief made the call on July 20, while speaking to 273 Rwandan youth including students based abroad, who are undergoing civic education at Gabiro Combat Training Centre.

The annual two-week civic education programme attended by participants from 17 countries started on July 14. It is also attended by students who are set to enrol in schools abroad. 

IGP Gasana enlightened the students on the Rwanda National Police policing progress and challenges in the last 14 years of its existence.

He said some of the government initiatives like  Ndi Umunyarwanda,One cow per household, universal education, good governance and zero stance to corruption has contributed greatly to the well-being and unity of Rwandans.

He cited drug abuse, theft and domestic violence as crimes that are still high, but said the force initiated various  strategies such as community-based policing, media and public awareness to jointly combat them.

He, however, said the advancement of technology is aiding organised criminal groups to implement their evil plans, but added that the force in partnership with regional and international police forces is working hard to curb international crime.
