THE 2013 Peace Cup winners AS Kigali made a shocking move on Wednesday as they signed former Amavubi coach Eric Nshimiyimana on a two-year contract from rivals SC Kiyovu. 

Last week, SC Kiyovu and Nshimiyimana had agreed terms on a one-year contract but the old giants delayed to put pen to paper with the latter. 

AS Kigali’s quick move for Nshimiyimana was orchestrated by their former coach Andre Cassa Mbungo’s move to Police FC on a three-year contract. 

Knowing well the vast experience and knowledge of Nshimiyimana who had previously managed the club in 2008, AS Kigali officials made no further delays and by Wednesday evening, they had officially sealed the deal. 

Nshimiyimana’s new contract with Kigali city-sponsored AS Kigali will see him stay at the club until the end of 2015/2016 season. 

Besides AS Kigali, the 42-year-old Nshimiyimana has previously coached youthful Isonga FC, APR FC and the national team (Amavubi). 

Nshimiyimana spent over a year (March 2013- April 2014) managing Amavubi team after replacing Milutin Micho, who is currently managing Uganda Cranes. He was replaced three months ago by English Stephen Constantine. 

Born on May 8, 1972 in Bujumbura, Burundi, Nshimiyimana featured for Burundi’s Prince Louis Rwagasore FC before returning to Rwanda to feature for APR FC and Kiyovu SC. 

He was part of the national team squad that qualified and participated at the 2004 African Cup of Nations (Can) in Tunisia.
