Saturday
THE National football team depart for Congo Brazzaville today ahead of the scheduled 2015 Africa Nations second round qualifier slated for this Saturday in Pointe-Noire.
The Amavubi leave this evening aboard RwandAir, but by press time head coach Stephen Constantine was yet to release the list of the squad travelling for the game.
However, he might still maintain the squad which registered a 1-0 win over Gabon in Saturday’s international friendly match held at Kigali Regional Stadium.
Nirisarike out of Congo tie
Influential defender Salomon Nirisarike who signed a one-year contract with Belgium’s second side outfit Saint-Trond will not be part of the upcoming qualifier because he is yet to finalise on his working permit processing.
According to Rwanda Football Federation (Ferwafa) he will be available for the return leg due in Kigali on August 2.
From Congo Brazzaville, Amavubi will connect to Gabon for the return friendly game scheduled for July 24 in Libreville before returning back to Kigali two days later for the second leg against the Congolese.
Both teams have already met in the U20 Afcon games this year where Amavubi lost 3-0 in Gabon’s capital city Libreville.
The winner over the two legs will seal an automatic place in the group stages. Rwanda reached the second round of the Orange Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2015 qualifiers after a 3-0 win over Libya in May.
AS Vita striker Daddy Birori scored a hat-trick as the Amavubi stunned the Mediterranean Knights to progress to set up a clash against Congo’s Red Devils who ejected Namibia 3-1 on aggregate.
