President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea said that Africa must copy Rwanda’s political resolve to create peace and development despite facing enormous challenges.
Obiang, who is on a two-day visit to Rwanda, made the remarks yesterday during a state banquet in Kigali, hosted by President Paul Kagame.
Obiang said that whereas Africa shows steady economic growth and development, political turmoil in several regions of the continent could jeopardize the achievements made.
"Africa needs political will and determination as that characterised by Rwanda in order to guarantee peace and stability. Rwanda has shown remarkable courage and determination of valuing independence and patriotism, even after facing genocide. My wish is to advocate for this solidarity all over the continent,” Obiang said.
"In this sense, I believe that Guinea can collaborate with Rwanda and other countries that have experienced bad times in order to help and bring peace to other countries that are experiencing turmoil and conflict.”
President Kagame lauded Obiang’s visit to Rwanda as a testament of friendship between both countries and the much needed cooperation between African states.
"We in Africa face similar challenges as we work to develop our countries and endeavor to deliver to our citizens. Rwanda looks towards forging common missions with Equatorial Guinea that are important for faster and productive African integration,” Kagame said.
The two countries look to boost trade and are expected to sign a number of agreements.
