The Rwandan minister of foreign affairs and her Equatoguinean counterpart are tomorrow expected to sign a General Cooperation Agreement that will see the two nations enter into closer cooperation.

The development was announced today by Minister Louise Mushikiwabo upon the arrival of the Equatorial Guinea President, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo. President Mbasogo who is in the country for a two-day State visit was received at Kigali International Airport his Rwandan counterpart President Paul Kagame.

President Mbasogo’s visit is part of a broader agenda between African Heads of State to start working together more closely, advance the African agenda and push for integration in any way possible, said Mushikiwabo.

Equatorial Guinea is part of the community of countries in the Central African region of which Rwanda is a member and during the recent African Union summit in Malabo the two presidents held private discussions on the need for a new south-south cooperation and agreed that there was a need to move faster in terms of cooperation.

"The two foreign ministers will be signing a general cooperation agreement before the presidents and we have selected a number of sectors where we want to be working together which is economy, investment, security, transport, and mutual support in global affairs,” said Minister Mushikiwabo.
