Adrien Niyonshuti widened his lead in this year’s Tour de Rwanda after a comfortable phase five win yesterday.
The 21-year-old rode from Huye to Kigali (155km) in 3 hours 37 minutes beating his closest challenger and defending champion Abraham Ruhumuriza by a massive eight minutes.
Kenya’s Anthony Mwite became the first foreign rider to break into the top three slots in the race when he finished third after clocking 3:43:22:14.
Nathan Byukusenge came fourth (3:43:22:14) while Rwanda’s prospect Godfrey Gahemba wrapped up the top five slots after clocking 3:43:23:17.
The riders have a rest day today before heading to the eastern province tomorrow for a thrilling sprint that will cover 32km from Nyamata to Gashora.
