THREE-TIME Fiba/Africa zone five champions APR booked a place in the play-offs tournament after finishing the local basketball league on a high note with a win away to Rusizi BBC yesterday in Rusizi District.

The Former champions APR beat Rusizi, last year’s second runners-up, 83-68  to ensure their participation in the forthcoming play-offs which will be contested by the best four teams in the league. 

Espoir in men and APR in women’s category are the play-offs defending champions.

APR’s skipper Deo Nkurikiyinka scored 28 points while his teammate Sanny Niyomugabo added 16 points for the military side.

"We are pleased by the victory; my players successfully executed the mission. Winning our last league match means a lot for us, thanks to everyone who’s been with us this whole championship. Play-offs preps are starting soon,” Kenyan-born APR’s tactician Cliff Owuor told Sunday Sport after the match.

Action continues today with Rusizi hosting new league entrants Gisenyi BBC at 9am while in women’s championship, seven-time champions APR battle Ubumwe BBC in a title-decider clash at Amahoro indoors stadium at 10am.

Champions Espoir lead the standings with 38 points, four ahead of second-placed APR while CSK and UGB are third and fourth with 33 and 31 points respectively.
